From Burnout to Breakthrough: My Journey to Health & Wellness Coaching

Same as yours, my health story is deeply personal.

I am a high performer. Always in constant performance mode. The long hours, high-stakes, and little space to breathe. I did it in school, through Law School, in every job. I learned that I needed to push myself to excel, to succeed, and to thrive. So, I became a master at staying composed under pressure. Looking back, beneath the surface, my body was carrying the cost.

Since I was a baby, I’ve faced digestive issues. I struggle with gluten sensitivity, IBS, acid reflux, and chronic gastritis. When studying Law, I experienced the heartache of somatic pain. And arthritis has entered the chat too. These challenges have taught me to listen to my body and honor its needs. But it wasn’t always that way.

I became an attorney in 2002, predominantly practicing Labor Law. But before that, I was working at this Law Firm, which became my first encounter with hustle culture. I remember opening my private practice, vowing never to accept an environment so demanding that it left no room to live. Little did I know that “never say never” is real.

From my younger years to that point in my life, I was mostly sedentary, dabbling between yoga, pilates, and spinning, depending on the mood. Of course, in your 20’s or 30’s, these decisions depend on your hanging out schedule, so it was easy to be on and off any type of movement. Until CrossFit entered my life in 2014.

I closed my private practice and shifted to public service in 2012. And when I started CrossFit, my whole world changed. Can you imagine? I couldn’t at the time. I needed to break all those preconceived perspectives about how a woman should do fitness. But I’ll be honest with you, for the first time, I felt that, without realizing it, I reconnected with my body. I simply felt joy at the gym, but not at work. That’s when curiosity drew me back to the concept of coaching.

The first time I heard the word “coaching” was during my years in private practice. It was a certification in Family Coaching. I didn’t even know what that was. The only people I knew where called coaches were those leading a sports team.

Being the performer that I am, I was curious about how I could improve and support my health beyond exercise. Mostly because I started to notice that I was leaning into better, quality foods, instead of fast food. So, I stumbled into the power of nutrition, which led me to my first health coaching certification. I learned that health isn’t just about movement or even nutrition, but about integrating other things into your life. I started to feel steady, even when work was demanding.

I was hooked. I even opened a coaching practice, but when opportunity came knocking on my door, the performer went for the high-stakes government roles. Needless to say, I ended up in the very kind of space I promised myself to avoid. I got pulled back into survival mode. And all that stress that was already imprinted in my nervous system from before started to show up again, but strongly.

Years of chronic stress began to show up in ways I couldn’t ignore. Unpredictable digestion, relentless fatigue, ongoing inflammation, and a body that felt wired and tired all at once. Even when I was doing everything “right,” my body was stuck. I just kept feeling sick and drained. And when I couldn’t find answers, I found myself in health coaching, again and again. This helped me understand how stress management, through nutrition, movement, and recovery, is essential to create wellbeing.

In March 2025, I decided to leave public service. I knew it was time to build something meaningful. With that I also left behind what I once thought was my purpose – being an attorney. I gave the coaching practice another chance. This time, I wasn’t just reclaiming my life or chasing a career. I was embracing what I always knew and never fully understood — that my true purpose has been always to elevate others. To help them see their own potential, rise into their truth, and become more of who they are.

As part of that transformation, I decided to embrace the name AMarie, a combination of my full first name, Ainez Marié, and a reflection of my growth and the clarity of my purpose.

Why I Do This Work

Through my own journey, I’ve learned that stress isn’t just mental; it’s physiological. It shapes how we eat, move, rest, and recover. My body had been fighting for years, and I hadn’t been listening. But when I finally started to see stress as a signal, not an enemy, I connected the dots. Through nutrition, movement, and recovery, connected and aligned as one framework, I began to regulate myself. I realized what had been missing all along: the ability to trust my body as much as I’ve always trusted myself, and a repaired relationship with who I am.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re holding it together on the outside while your body pays the price, I know that story because I have lived it. I understand the tension between performance and wellbeing. It’s why my coaching is about creating sustainable health and wellbeing by addressing the root causes of stress and building an approach that supports your body, your pace, and your life.

What I Believe

I believe that health is our most powerful support for anything we desire to do, and we take it for granted because society tells us is more about the absence of disease. As humans, we have the potential to find wellbeing, and that’s key to health. It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating strategies and practices that hold, even when life doesn’t. It’s about learning to work with your body’s stress responses, not against them.

Stress impacts every aspect of health — disrupting sleep, digestion, and energy levels. And using nutrition, movement, and recovery in your favor is important. They’re not just basic needs. When aligned with your needs, they can serve as ways to support how your body handles stress. It can help you unlock energy, clarity, and control, so you can show up fully in your life. Because this is about building a life you don’t need to recover from.

I help people return to themselves — to their clarity, to feeling more steady in their body, and their truth — by integrating the wisdom I earned through healing my own body, rebuilding my identity, and choosing a life that aligns with who I really am.
